Day 3 thoughts

I have really enjoyed interacting with you parents and taking your requests and suggestions.  I realize I won't always meet everyone's expectations, especially when our first focus is on the boys safety and well being, but it's fun to try.

Today was quite a different day than the first two.  The boys were more rested and the pace was slower. Relationships between the boys are starting to blossom  a little more.  I observe each boy reaching out a little broader among the group.

The boys have done really well with their historical and spiritual lessons.  These presentations are given as we drive from place to place in our large and comfortable bus.  Brother Tagge passes out candy to the boys who correctly answer quiz questions about each presentation.  The boys really compete to get these treats!

It is such a powerful experience feeling the Spirit of the Lord as they teach each other.  One of our troops is planning to pass a Book of Mormon around for all the boys to sign to give to Gil, our bus driver.  As they contemplate this missionary activity, I see the lights begin to glow in what will soon be a large group of missionaries sharing the light of the restored gospel.

It was a hot, humid day in Philadelphia, but we had a cute tour guide who was very patient with and understanding of our boys.  She took us from shady place to shady place, and in and out of buildings with the best air conditioning and cold water.

As we visited the birthplace of our nation, and talked about the men who risked their lives, their treasure and their honor to start a revolution, we could see the spirit of patriotism growing in their eyes.  Many of you have visited here, and so you'll know what I mean when I say it is almost impossible not to be deeply impressed with the courage, focus, resilience and intelligence of the men who had a hand in our nations great documents.  What a great foundation for discussions with the boys for years to come.

I wrote about our experience in Amish country in another post.

Let me know of what you'd like to see or hear more!
