Day 8 thoughts

Today started with all the boys packing all their touring gear and having a box breakfast on the bus.  A five hour drive to West Virginia was filled with watching history channel episodes of the history of America.  The boys all wrote their testimonies on pieces of paper and gave them to Gil as a parting gift.  They were sad he was not camping with us.

The afternoon and evening were very busy.  The boys built two dining flies, set up tables and cooking gear, then set up their tents, cots, bags and pillows.

Tucker Pike's patrol cooked dinner tonight.  The boys walk an orange garden cart to the "store", a 20 minute round trip.  They bring back all the supplies they will need to prepare the meal.  Tonight they cooked chicken with barbecue sauce, cole slaw, corn on the cob, oranges and kool-aid.  All had their fill.  The boys did the dishes and cleaned up the camp.

They spent the rest of the evening looking around the local area and cleaning up camp.  Little mishaps happened here and there.  And we worked through them.

I'm sure tonight you are thinking even more of your son as it is the first night camping at the Jamboree.  I know they are thinking a little more of you.  They are all tired tonight; it's been a hot afternoon filled with work.  It is good to see how work blesses the boys lives.  As they built camp and made dinner with very little guidance from leaders, you could see confidence build in their eyes.  I heard several say, "This is fun!"  It sure is a far cry from touring, restaurant food and hotel stays!

Tonight, Bro Tagge went over the procedures for tomorrow answering questions and making certain the boys know what the camp and Jamboree will be like.

We are situated in a beautiful, peaceful valley.  The stars are shining bright under a half moon.  All ate a good dinner, attended our troop meeting and are in their tents.  Have a good night!
