Day 5 thoughts

To have seen the historical places where our country was created an defended, and then today to visit beautiful Washington, D.C. Is an amazing experience.  D.C. Is the result of acts of that congress created at Liberty Hall.  The White House, the Capitol, and all the monuments in their beautiful settings tell us immediately about the success of our founding fathers, and the wealth and power of present day United States.  Seeing people here from all walks of life meeting peacefully for fun or to ask the Government to support their cause is a visual demonstration of the liberties and rights we enjoy.

I know that lesson was not lost on the boys.

We all had a filling 'box breakfast' on the bus this morning as we drove to meet Eric Lamar, our guide with 26 years of experience.

We walked around the spread out monuments for Martin Luther King. Jr and FDR.  Eric quizzed the boys on their knowledge of US history, and I think he was impressed with their answers.  We visited the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and memorials to those who fought and those who died in the first and second world wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam war.

I had the sense that the message of this trip for the boys is that great men listen to The Lord's Spirit, and have the courage and determination to do simple but great things.  Time and time again we've seen examples of men who've needed bravery and faith in dire times, and how The Lord helps them.

The boys had fun having lunch at a food court at Union Station.  Amadeus' dad met him for lunch, and Grant's father joined us for part of the tour this morning.

The Spy museum was next, and then on to dinner at McDonalds and an evening watching the marines drill and listen to their inspiring music.  I think the boys admire men in the service now much more.

We are all back at the hotel and safe. Its late; I'm hitting the hay.  Have a great night!
